LOUTH REGISTRATION DISTRICT MARRIAGES

1837 TO 1870

These marriage details have been extracted from the parish registers of the following parishes in the Louth Registration District:

Alvingham, Authorpe, Beesby in the Marsh, Binbrook St Mary, Burgh on Bain, Burwell, Castle Carlton, Conisholme, Covenham St Bartholomew and St Mary, Fotherby, Fulstow, Gayton le Marsh, Grainsby, Grainthorpe, Great Carlton, Grimoldby, Hannah cum Hagnaby, Haugham, Keddington, Kelstern, Little Cawthorpe, Little Grimsby, Louth Holy Trinity (from 1866), Louth St Michael (from 1863), Louth St James, Ludborough, Ludford, Mablethorpe, Maltby le Marsh, Manby, Marshchapel, Muckton, North Coates, North Cockerington, North Elkington, North Ormsby, North Reston, North Somercotes, North Thoresby, Oxcombe, Saleby, Saltfleetby St Peter, Skidbrook, South Cockerington*, South Elkington, South Reston, South Somercotes, South Thoresby, Stewton, Strubby, Swaby, Theddlethorpe All Saints, Tothill, Utterby, Waithe, Welton le Wold, Withcall, Withern, Wyham cum Cadeby, Yarborough

*The first few entries in the South Cockerington register are deficient in that the father’s name is uncertain, and question marks have been used. It may be coincidence, but many of the names in this column up to 1840 also appear as witnesses, and the surname is different from that of both the bride and groom.

Nonconformist Churches
Louth Centenary Methodist Chapel from 1849.

The following parishes have not deposited marriage records for this period and are therefore not included:

Aby, Belleau, Binbrook St Gabriel, Biscathorpe, Donington on Bain, Farforth cum Maidenwell, Gayton le Wold, Hainton, Haugh, Holton le Clay, Legbourn, Little Carlton, Raithby cum Maltby, Ruckland, Saltfleetby All Saints and St Clement, South Willingham, Stenigot, Tathwell, Tetney, Theddlethorpe St Helen, Trusthorpe.

Where the groom or bride’s father had a different surname, or the surname was spelt differently, from that of the groom or bride, this is shown in capital letters. All other names in these columns are forenames. The bride’s condition (single or widow) is only shown where the father’s surname is different to hers. In many instances, father’s names are not given. Any comments in the father’s name column, other than a name, are shown in italics e.g. deceased etc. Where nothing appeared the word blank has been inserted. In one or two instances the name of the bride or groom’s mother has been given.

Marriages transcribed by Anne Cole, Bernie Kettlewell, Wendy Parkinson and Fiona Poulton.
