LINCOLN
REGISTRATION DISTRICT MARRIAGES
1837 TO 1870
These marriage details have been extracted from the parish registers of the following parishes in the Lincoln Registration District:
Lincoln St Botolph, Lincoln St Benedict, Lincoln St Mark, Lincoln St Martin, Lincoln St Michael, Lincoln St Mary Magdalen, Lincoln St Mary le Wigford, Lincoln St Nicholas, Lincoln St Paul, Lincoln St Peter at Arches, Lincoln St Peter at Eastgate, Lincoln St Peter at Gowts, Lincoln St Swithin,
Marriages from 1850 from the registers of the Wesley Chapel, Clasketgate, Lincoln (also known as "Big Wesley") and Lincoln St Hugh Roman Catholic from 1846 are also included. Fathers' names were not given in most entries of the latter register, which is not a "proper" marriage register, and is very faint in places.
Where the groom or bride's father had a different surname, or the surname was spelt differently, from that of the groom or bride, this is shown in capital letters. All other names in these columns are forenames. The bride's condition (single or widow) is only shown where the father's surname is different to hers. In many instances, father's names are not given. Any comments in the father's name column, other than a name, are shown in italics e.g. deceased etc. Where nothing appeared the word blank has been inserted. In one or two instances the name of the bride or groom's mother has been given.
There are one or two duplicate entries, where the GRO entry is vastly different from the register or the signature of the bride or groom e.g. REAVILL appears in the GRO indexes as BEAVILL and DOVE as DIVE. There are also two occurrences of the same couple marrying twice, with slightly different names.
Some of the cells contain comments, particularly where the name in the marriage form differs from the signature. It is advisable to set the "find" facility to also search the comments field when doing searches. Cells with comments have a red triangle in the top right corner. Hover over these cells with your mouse to see the comments.
